Compatible CD+G Burners
Karaoke Builder Studio will not burn your tracks to disc. You need Nero or CDRWIN to do that. You also need a CD burner which is able to burn CD+G discs. Many drives can do this, but not all, so to find out if your drive is compatible please read this page carefully.

Using Nero to Check Your Burner
If you want to use Nero to burn CD+G discs, Nero can provide you with compatibility information about the drives installed in your computer. From the Recorder menu select Choose Recorder. You will be presented with a screen like this one:

The information you are looking for is DAO/96 - if your drive supports it you can use Nero to burn CD+G discs using the selected burner.

Nero InfoTool
If you don't already have Nero, and need to decide whether to buy it for CD+G burning, use the free Nero InfoTool, which is available from this web site: Nero InfoTool provides detailed information about the burners installed in your computer:

Look for RAW DAO 96 and CD+G compatibility. If you have RAW DAO 96 compatibility, you will be able to burn CD+G discs with Nero.

Using CDRWIN to Check Your Burner
If you want to use CDRWIN to burn CD+G discs, CDRWIN can provide you with compatibility information about the drives installed in your computer. Click on the Devices and Settings button (top row, last button) and select the Recorders tab:

If the Record CD+Graphics Discs box is checked you will be able to burn CD+G discs with CDRWIN.

Buying a New Burner
Unfortunately some CD burners (usually older ones) simply cannot burn CD+G discs. If you have followed the instructions given above and find that you have a non-compatible burner, there is no other choice - you will need to buy a new burner. To find a compatible drive follow these steps:

Step 1
If you normally buy from the web, look at your favourite online shops, and find a drive which seems to be suitable. If you can find a good review of the drive on a reputable site, you may find the compatibility information quite quickly.

Step 2
Look here to find out if your chosen drive is CD+G compatible:

Step 3
If you are using CDRWIN, look here to find out if you can burn discs with it (Nero users will probably find that their drive is already supported): New drives come onto the market all the time so others may be compatible. These may be listed as CD+G compatible or, sometimes, as RAW+96 or DAO/96 compatible (or something similar - it's the 96 which is important in most cases). You will need to make sure that the drive is supported by Nero or CDRWIN. If in doubt, please contact Ahead (the makers of Nero) or Goldenhawk (CDRWIN), who will be able to advise you further before buying a new drive.

Plextor Burners
Almost all Plextor drives are CD+G compatible and are acknowledged to be the 'best bet' for CD+G burning. As you may have guessed from the screenshots above, our current drive of choice is the Plextor PX-712A, which can burn DVDs as well as CDs. The price of DVD burners is now so low that you may as well go for one when buying a new burner, and with CD+G capabilities you'll not go far wrong with this drive. It is also fully supported by Nero and CDRWIN.
